Smoking:The Weapon of Mass Destruction

July 19th, 2014 || Lifestyle

Research has shown that if current trends continues, by the year 2030,the annual DEATH TOLL from smoking will rise to more than 8,000,000.And they envisage that smoking will have taken 1,000,000,000 lives by the end of the 21st century.
The results of Tobacco usage does not only affect those who are actively involved, but the surviving spouses who suffers emotional as well as financial loss. ANOTHER serious group that smoking normally affects are the breathing of second hand smoke. Every year people who die of second hand smoke are estimated to be around 600,000.
Each year, the Tobacco industry spends billions of dollars on advertising to attract new customers. The addictive nature of Tobacco makes it very difficult for those who are seriously hooked to it to stop.
This rendition has purposely been written for both smokers and non-smokers, and also to sensitize the world community about the destructive nature of Tobacco .WE have a few advice for the world governments:

Smoking  Prevention  Should  Be  A  Subject  To  Be  Studied  In  All Junior  Level  School

The death toll recorded on the tobacco menace is very alarming. This lifestyle is a man-made one, and so I believe we all have the capacity to bring it to its barest minimum level. It should be part of the curriculum as a subject and not as a topic of some units. It should be vigorously thought in all primary and junior secondary schools to discourage these youths from engaging in this nefarious act, especially in the developing world where these  youths are mostly affected.

Quota  Be  Placed  On  The  Tobacco  Industry  As  To  Amount  of   Tobacco  To   Be  Produced  Per  Year

In the light of these mass killings of Tobacco related diseases, we encourage our various governments to have the courage to exercise their political will to enact laws that will restrict mass production of these tobacco related products.I believe reducing its proliferation will surely make some important impacts in peoples’ lives.If they find it difficult to get it on the market,they will eventually stop smoking.

More  Funding  For  The  Psychiatric  Hospitals

In the final analysis it is the psychiatric hospitals that bares all the brunt of these social menaces. One fact about  life is that no matter how you restrict or you give a total ban on tobacco, someone somewhere will find a way to manufacture it.So it’s therefore very important for various governments to make more provisions of funding for such foreseen occurrences by giving more funds for the psychiatric institutions. In the case of Ghana, this very important institutions are largely underfunded, and I believe not only Ghana but other developing countries, are having the same problem of funding. The simple reasons are that it is the Developing world who are largely affected from these of tobacco production. The developed world are making a banning of tobacco production a priority, but Africa and other developing countries are rather embracing them just because of their purported economic benefit these company brings along.These governments accept these multinational companies because of their tax and provisions of jobs to the economy. African leaders experiencing pressure from home to improve the economy accept these multinational companies without thinking of its implications.

Stop  The  Movie  Industry  From  Exhibiting  Tobacco  Uusage  In Film  Production

FILM ACTORS SMOKINGJAMES BORN

Most stars starring in movies becomes role models for many young  people. These young folks are the most vulnerable in the society and really wants to  make a mark, and so they copy anything,especially,if it comes from their hero .I therefore call on all policy makers to enact policies that will end this exhibitions on our screens.

More  Funding  For  Research

There are a lot of people struggling to end this addictions but they are not able. Their only hope is drugs that will decrease their motivation or penchant for this smoking addiction. World leaders should give more funding and attention to research institutions that are into producing drugs that will lower the cravings of smoking when one is hooked up onto it.

This rendition is not only to advice world governments, but also to discourage smoking in any form.We have all seen the statistics, and it is very alarming.I think the statistics speak for itself, and that alone should put some fear in you to make you want to stop it. As the popular saying goes: “when you advice the goose, you should also advice the gander”. So we won’t only give advice to various governments but also to individuals who are seriously hooked to this smoking .Individuals who are seriously hooked up in this mess, should know that we need them, the world need, their children need them, their wives need them. We don’t want them to die early, but  they should make every effort to put an end to this lifestyle ones and for all. I know you can do it.You have the will power to do it.You may have tried so many times in stopping it,but please, just try one more time,and you will be glad you did.
