To keep the body in good health is a duty, otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear. – Buddha

When you have everything in life that money can buy: houses, cars, food, security etc. And you have no good health, it’s all useless. You need good health and peace of mind to enjoy your wealth. Many rich men will be willing to give up all their wealth in exchange of good health. To be sick and not well, is evil in itself. It is incumbent on each of us to take our health more seriously. To be healthy is something that one needs to learn. You need to learn how to be healthy through discipline and hard work. Let get down now and see how we can learn to be healthy.

Pure  Air

Pure fresh air is very important to good health. During the day, and while sleeping at night, proper ventilation of our home and working place ensure that our blood will always distribute enough oxygen to every part of the body. Taking deep breaths during a morning enough oxygen walk is a great way to oxygenate your body. The kind of air we breathe is obviously important. Be careful not to subject yourself to fumes, gases or air-borne bacteria from some hidden source. Smoking pollutes the air and is one of today’s big killers. Scientific research has established a causal relationship between tobacco and lung cancer, emphysema, and heart disease. The body’s addiction to the nicotine in cigarettes makes smoking one of the hardest habits to break.Smoking will kill 12 million a year by the year 2020 if the present trend continues.

Sunlight

The benefits of sunlight are many: 1. Fifteen to 30 minutes of daily exposure to sunlight in the early morning or late afternoon helps the body synthesize or make its own vitamin D, an essential nutrient/hormone in the skin. Vitamin D helps blood to produce calcium and phosphorus, which build and repair bone mass.2.Sunlight acts as disinfectant and a killer of bacteria. 3 The sun provides energy by which the plant kingdom can convert carbon dioxide and water into carbohydrates. Without this process animals and human would starve to death .4 Sunlight also helps a person adjust to night work and relieves depression related to dark days where winter occurs. However, Sunlight can also be harmful. Prolonged exposure can burn skin, increase the risk of skin cancer, speed up the aging process, damage the eyes, and cause cataract. So know how to balance these two very wisely, in other for you to fully benefit from it.

Rest

The body must have rest in order to repair itself. We must have time to recreation and rest to relieve the tensions of work and family responsibilities. Without the required dosage of rest, people often experience anxiety, depression, and irritability. Such emotional stress can lead to illness, which will force us to take the rest of our bodies we were asking for all a long. There’s simply no substitute for a good night’s sleep. We also need a regular break from work cycle, a weekly day of rest, and annual or semi-annual vacation. Resting reasonably will improve your health considerably. You should rest at least 8 hours a day for good health.

Proper  Exercise

Edward Stanley, once said that “Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”Exercise is essential to our health in several ways: 1.Exercise helps to normalize blood pressure 2.Exercise allows more blood to reach all part of the body, keeping the extremities warm 3.Exercise release both physical and emotional tension, helping you to feel better about life. Exercise is usually the best cure for worry and stress 4.Exercise provides electrical energy to the brain and nerve cells. It promotes health by stimulating the immune system. When the body is kept in shape by proper exercise, the mind thinks more creatively and efficiently 5.It can help with your complexion and keep you trim 6. Exercise makes you more energetic, thus delaying both physical and emotional fatigue 7.It aids in the brain’s production of a chemical that gives you a sense of well-being and increases your tolerance for pain. If you will like to start exercise one of these days, start slowly probably by walking, and increase it gradually as you gain endurance. It may be wise to consult your physician first before starting. Your goal should be to engage in any type of exercise that is comparable to walking or jogging miles of 60 minutes, three or more times a week.Dr. Kenneth Cooper of Cooper Institute said,”exercise is a journey, not a destination. It must be continued for the rest of your life.We do not stop exercising because we grow old – we grow old because we stop exercising”.

Good  Drinking  Water

The body contains about 70% of water, so it will be wiser to drink more water throughout the day to quickly replace the lost and diminished water in your body. The body requires about two and half quarts of water per a day to perform all of its functions. Some of these functions include blood circulation, waste removal, nutrient transport, and digestion. The average person has about 15 and 40 billion brain cells. Each one of those is 70 to 85 percent water. Sufficient water to supply these cells help keep you mentally alert and help prevent depression and irritability. It is not only the water you drink that is important. Cool  daily bath or shower improves circulation, thus energizing the body and mind. A shower or bath can also soothe jangled nerves, which can cause illness by weakening the immune system. Bathing also removes impurities from the skin and can reduce fever. Drink water only when you feel thirsty. The fact that we have been advice to drink water in huge quantities doesn’t necessarily mean that we should do it ignorantly. Never drink water if you are not thirsty. It is because, water contains a lot of minerals, especially ones that are used in purifying the water ,like chlorine etc, could be huge and can be harmful to your health in the long run when take in large doses.

Proper  Diet

Products from animals can be both highly saturated and non-saturated fats. Saturated fats contains cholesterol, which increases high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes etc. Cut down on too much meat, consume more sea foods and nuts. Cut down your sugar consumption level. Consume less salt. Eat more grain, fruits and vegetables.

Periodic  Check  Up

It’s always wise to check your health status at least every six to twelve months every year. This will enable the expert to detect any disease very early before they course any damage to you. When you take this aspect of your routine very seriously could drastically save your life. Annual exams usually check on your health history. This is a chance to mention any complaints or concerns about your health. Vital Signs. These are some vital signs checked by your doctor: Blood: Less than 120 over 80 is a normal blood pressure. Doctors define high blood pressure (hypertension) as 140 over 90 or higher. Heart rate: Values between 60 and 100 are considered normal. Many healthy people have heart rates slower than 60, however. Respiration rate: From 12 to 16 breaths per minute is normal for a healthy adult. Breathing more than 20 times per minute can suggest heart or lung problems. Temperature: 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit is the average, but healthy people can have resting temperatures slightly higher or lower.

Positive  Outlook  Towards  Life

There was this story I heard not too long ago. It was about a young man who does all the exercise required of him every day, he eats good nutritious food, rest well, do all the check-ups and yet he died at the age of 40.It was a complete surprise to many. But when an observation and a little scrutiny was done, it was realized that this man had never being happy about his own life, always complaining about how the economy isn’t good. He whines about everything and sees life as bleak. Seeing good about everything that happens to you either good or bad can elongate your years in life. Having a positive outlook about life can save your life many times. Always protect your mind from being poisoned by anything thing that is likely to do so.One advise I will like to give you, is to stay away from people who don’t see any good about this life. Stop reading newspapers, and listening to radio. They don’t give good news. These programs are full of emotionally charged issues which is not good for your health in the long run.

 Conclusion

A doctor was celebrating his 80th birthday, and was very strong and healthy. One man asked him his secret for his longevity .He laughed and said, “If you want to grow old and healthy, take care of your stomach for the first fifty years and then your stomach will take care of you the rest of your life. The advice the doctor gave, gives us a reminder of how our eating can give us good health or bad health.
